Woodworker Plans
My woodworking skills combined with the right set of woodworker plans have contributed to a very enjoyable hobby over the years. Woodworking can be an incredibly satisfying and enjoyable pursuit whether you’re a hobbyist, or a professional. There is something magical about taking a raw piece of wood, and making something useful out of it. It provides a great feeling of accomplishment especially when the project is for someone you care about.
I remember starting on a swan rocking chair a few years back when my daughters were still little. I was going to surprise them with these great rocking chairs that they would never forget – so I thought.
Most of the pieces are still in my garage to this day. The problem? I ran into a snag with the design. You see, I checked out a book from my local library that had several free woodworker plans, and I got stuck due to a lack of details in the plan.
At the time I didn’t have the skill or experience to compensate for the lack of information. I got so frustrated, I just gave up on it and now, I missed my window for building those rocking chairs for my little girls. Oh well, maybe I’ll finish them for grand kids someday.
Good plans for any project are essential this is particularly true for those who have intermediate to beginner woodworking skills. The more experience you have the less dependent you are on a plan to follow. How many of you have experienced the same thing I mentioned above due to poorly written, illustrated, or just flat out wrong instructions? I’m guessing a few of you.
Without a good set of plans, you might as well drive down the road and throw your hard earned money out the window as you go. Wood is expensive these days, especially hard wood, and you want to limit your potential for mistakes as much as possible which brings me to the point of how to go about finding reliable woodworker plans.
First off, let me say that FREE is not always better, especially when it pertains to wood project plans. The old adage “You pay for what you get” applies here. I’ve seen some decent free woodworking project plans for simple projects, and if that’s the route you’re taking, you’ll probably be fine, but for more complex wood projects, you’d be better off spending the money on a good set of plans.
The purpose of this website is to help woodworkers of all levels find good plans for their projects. I’ve tried to put together a fairly comprehensive source of various places where you can find woodworker plans. If you’re a real woodworker like me, I’m sure you’ve seen all the ads for the buy now, and get access to thousands of wood project plans, right? But, how good are they? Well, if you’re interested, you can read my honest review on one of those sources by clicking the link above – near the page header.
Also, I have put together a resource page for woodworking plans. You can go to that page and find several sources for buying woodworking project plans online. If you’re interested in FREE woodworking plans, you can purchase a membership to my Woodworker Plans Membership area. Yes, I know it’s a bit of on oxymoron, free/purchase, but I’ve done the work for you. I’ve searched the Net for every free woodworking plan that I could find and I’ve put them in one place for you. Also, I go in about once a month and clean up any dead links and add more plans as I find them. Not a bad deal for a one-time fee of seven dollars, considering the average cost for one simple wood project plan will cost you about seven dollars, don’t you think?
If you’re not interested in my membership area, that’s okay, we can still be friends; there are a lot of places online where you can get free woodworking plans, but it does take time to work through them. You can also try your local library for finding wood project plans. In the past, I have found some fairly decent project plans for simple wood projects, but it’s rare to find plans comprehensive enough for a more complicated wood project. One more place to find wood plans is through other woodworkers. If you can find a group (or start one), you can pool resources together – buy wood, trade tools, and exchange wood project plans. Create a wood project plan library that everyone can access.
I want to thank you for visiting my site; I hope you’ve found the information on woodworker plans helpful. It’s a great pleasure to serve other like-minded individuals with this website that have a heart for woodworking. Please make sure to visit again.
